The Global Programme to launch its second phase
GENEVA

BUILDING ON WHAT has been achieved so far, the Programme enters its second phase in 2001, with a multi-year contribution from the Government of Belgium.

It will seek to widen and deepen previous activities, by assisting willing countries to draw up national action plans, build their capacity in order to draft investment, competition and SMEs development policies, and undertake activities aimed at reinforcing negotiating skills.

A regional approach will be adopted to take into account regional trade groups and economic associations, with special attention being paid to the acute and deep-seated problems of LDCs. The country assessment studies will be widened to satisfy an increasing demand by developing countries to participate in the Programme.

These countries include Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Côte d'Ivoire, Lesotho, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Senegal, Tanzania, Tunisia Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
