Viêt Nam: UNCTAD Secretary-General Ricupero and Minister of Trade launch eLangViêt
GLOBAL PROGRAMME ONLINE NEWS, HANOI

At a ceremony yesterday in Hanoi, UNCTAD Secretary General Rubens Ricupero and Viêt Nam Minister of Trade Trân Dinh Tuyen, jointly launched eLangViêt.

eLangViêt, meaning literally e Vietnamese Farmer, will bring trade, production, health and education know-how to the grassroots populations of seven villages in the six provinces of Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, An Giang, Ha Tay, Thai Binh and Nghe An. These provinces represent a range of economic and geographical situations.

This action is the culmination of one year of extensive consultations and a pre-feasibility study, during which the case for eLangViêt was clearly made. It marks the begining of the feasibility study, which will provide a nuts and bolts blueprint for eLangViêt's implementation in 2005. It also marks the creation of a project office in Hanoi.
